Design
MEng students complete a design-oriented thesis project in teams. Design is quite different than research in that it requires creating something that does not currently exist. Design efforts involve working with and prioritizing requirements. This is particularly important given the time and resource constraints typically found in industry. Design includes elements of creativity and innovation. It involves iterations aimed at achieving a balanced whole. Drawing and visualizing the designed entities is an important skill to be mastered in this process. As a result - design is highly integrative. It requires holistic thinking abilities to be nurtured along with an ability to deal with the complexity that typically characterizes open-ended problem solving. Examples of design-oriented MEng theses have been included in the Program Implementation segment of this Web site. [Teamwork] [Practice-Oriented] [Right for You]
