MEng represents the graduate manifestation of CDIO. As a result, MEng students complete team-oriented thesis projects that include all four facets of CDIO. They conceive a solution or concept that addresses a set of needs. They design a product/system based on this concept. They then manufacture/code a prototype of the designed product. Finally they test or evaluate the prototype to determine how well it satisfies the original needs.

The project and thesis is conducted by starting over MIT's January Independent Activity Period. The project continues during the Spring Semester where it comes to closure for one-year MEng students. Multi-year MENg students can continue their project into a second year if that is compatible with their learning objectives.

Prior to starting the design projects MEng students will complete the Aerospace Product Design subject which provides a foundation for project activities.

Examples of MEng Projects are provided through the web site along with samples of student publications that have resulted from project work.
